Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Damansara Jaya (SMKDJ), also known as Damansara Jaya Secondary School, is a co-ed secondary school situated in Damansara Jaya, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia.

History

The school received its first intake of Form 1 students in 1983. The pioneer batch of students came mainly from SRK Damansara Utama and SRK Sultan Alam Shah 1 & 2, and there were also students from Sri Petaling and Kg Tengku primaries. The first headmaster of the school was Hj Abu Sujak, but the most memorable was Kevin De Souza. Pn Hjh. Naimah, who was assistant head during the school's early days, went on to become headmistress of the nearby SK Damansara Jaya many years later. The pioneer batch of teachers included Hjh Zuraidah, B.H. Lim, Raoul Huet, Imam Musaniff, Pn. Salina, Cikgu Rosli, Cikgu Syahrim, Pn. Loke, Pn. Leela and Pn Ooi.

The first student to be appointed head prefect was Syed Nasurudin Syed Abu Bakar, followed by Megat Fairuz Khairudin. The straight A students among the pioneers were consistently Chuah Beng Sim and Irene Siow Ai Ling. The celebrities who attended the school in the 1980s include Hasnol Hassan Ariff, Sofia Jane Hisham, Melissa Saila, Shahrizan and Shanie. The notable sports personalities include saloon car driver Eric Yeo and motorcycle rider Chow Yan Kit. A few years following the pioneers' graduation in 1987, the school celebrated the victory of one of its students in a yachting competition at the Olympics.

The school is today rated among the best in Malaysia based on public examination results.

Early school students designed the school badge and composed the school song and lyrics. K. Thanalechumy won an art competition to design the school badge while Nicholas Ong composed the school anthem Berilmu Untuk Berjasa.

Presently, the school has over 2000 students from the age of 12 + to 17.

'Blue' symbolises unity. The school is the best place to sow the seeds of unity among the many races and religions that make up Malaysia
'White' represents cleanliness and purity
'Yellow' represents the royal colour of Malaysia, which is the focus of undivided loyalty

Debate
SMKDJ is also a champion debating school and the only school in Malaysian history to have won the Datuk Wira debate competition 3 times. SMKDJ's debate teams have also won the HELP National Debate, the Taylors College National Debate and many others over the years.

Datin Hajah Hamidah bt. Nordin
The first lady Principal of this school. She initiated the construction of the Damansara Jaya School Hall. She played an important role in the school success in various fields such as the school achievement in the Datuk Wira Debate Competition, the success of the Dynamitez cheerleading team, and finally the school's high achievement in both National and International Scrabble competition. She also played a major role in promoting racial integration and unity among students and teachers in SMKDJ. Apart from that she is the longest serving principal in the school and she is loved by many ex-djians for her openness in managing the school's administration. She is also disliked by many students due to her arrogance and conceit in claiming that she is a 'Graduate' and better than headmasters of primary schools

Datin Wira Hajah Norizan binti Kamarudin
Introduced the Satu Sekolah Satu Pusat Sumber (lit. One School, One Resource Centre) concept which saw student-made mind maps of the syllabus pasted on walls around the school to promote learning. Won the school an award.
Known for her lengthy but encouraging speeches.
Retired in the middle of the year as opposed to the end of the year unlike other principals.

Pn. Maizan bt Mohd Nor
Her only public appearance was during a speech made shortly after she became principal. Soon afterwards, she took a long sabbatical during which she returned home to care for her parents. After the year-long absence, she announced her retirement, which was celebrated with a retirement lunch.

During her absence, the school was headed by the 3 Senior Assistants.
